JULY 17, 2013 — Brazilian shipbuilder EISA (Estaleiros Ilha SA) has received a preliminary license from environmental regulator IBAMA for a new shipyard to be built in the municipality of Coruripe, Alagoas, in the northeast of the country.
As a result of an Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) of the original site, the location is different from that first proposed. The IBAMA approved location will need less dredging and will allow a shipyard layout with three production lines for large vessels, rather than two, and three more production lines specific to military vessels, support vessels and special vessels.
