JULY 11, 2013 — ABS reports that its registered fleet has passed the 200 million gross tons mark. Some 12,000 vessels representing 105 flag states are now registered with the classification society.
"This important milestone reflects our commitment to providing best-in-class service to the marine and offshore industries," said ABS Chairman and CEO Christopher J. Wiernicki. "Over the past decade, we have made strategic investments in research and technology, workforce development and training programs in order to meet the evolving needs of our clients worldwide."
Since 2000, ABS has doubled the tonnage of its registered fleet. It says a key factor in the expansion has been the society's leadership position in the new vessel orderbook. More than 21percent of new vessels on order are set for ABS class, which is the largest percentage of any classification society in the world.
"The success of ABS is really a testament to the industries we serve," said Mr. Wiernicki. "We are proud to work alongside some of the very best in the marine and offshore industries. It is that spirit of cooperation that allows ABS to continue to be a leader in the classification industry."
"At ABS, we are committed to quality services that leverage innovative thinking," said Mr. Wiernicki. "Our goal is to help the industry construct and operate maritime and offshore assets in a safe, efficient and environmentally responsible manner."
