The "Mustafa Kan", 136 meters-long Turkish-owned cargo ship built in 2009, is sinking slowly to 24 miles off the coast of Avola. At three this night the carriers launched the "mayday" and said abandonment. The Panamanian-flagged vessel is slowly sinking but the 16 crew members were rescued on life rafts and immediately rescued by the Coast Guard. The "Mustafa Kan" carries a load of ammonium phosphate and does not constitute a danger to the marine ecosystem. It seems to have been attempted to tow the ship to the port of Augusta, but apparently the boat's fate is now sealed: will sink into a deep sea area more than a thousand meters. About the incident, from the protected marine area of Plemmirio communicates to be in continuous contact with the relevant authorities and ensure that the situation is constantly monitored. In any case, the considerable distance of the ship from the coast and the wind direction, would not seem to result in immediate risk of approaching any substances at the oasis marine coast of Syracuse.
