Ferry aground off Kapellskär

The "Finneagle" ran aground off Kapellskär, Swedan in the morning of June 12, 2014, due to a power loss.

The ferry was coming from Naantali when a blackout knocked out the electricity while backing into the basin, and she got stuck some hundred meters off the port of Kapellskär at 5.30 a.m. when the stern drifted onto a foundation and was damaged. The passengers, however, were allowed to go back to their cabins and the staff has promised to offer food. There was no leak nor danger to the 168 passengers and 30 crew members on board so they would not be evacuated. It would take salvors about five hours to reach the grounding site. Divers were examining the hull to assess the damage prior to the salvage.
