Subsea 7 orders heavy construction vessel at HHI

MAY 8, 2013 — Subsea 7 S.A. (Oslo: SUBC) has signed a contract with South Korean shipbuilding giant Hyundai Heavy Industries for a newbuild heavy construction vessel for delivery in 2016. Executive VP Commercial Steve Wisely (left) says the contract is "another investment in our world class leading fleet so that we can continue to meet our clients' demands for executing larger, more complex projects in deep and ultra-deepwater and in harsher environments."

The company says the new vessel will be one of the most capable heavy construction vessels in its fleet of over 40 ships.

She will be deployed globally to meet increasing market demands for executing ever-larger and more complex projects. She will have a 2,600 sq.m deck area (for equipment carriage), a 600 t Active Heave Compensated offshore crane, a 325 t top tension vertical lay system and a 7,000 t under-deck basket for storage of flexible pipes, umbilicals and cables.

The main crane and the vertical lay system will be provided by Huisman.

The vessel will be equipped with six main engines in two engine rooms designed to maximize performance in Dynamic Positioning Class III.
