APRIL 18, 2013 — The Shipbuilders Council of America (SCA) announced the winners of its 2012 Safety Awards at its recent General Membership Meeting in Washington, D.C. which was attended by more than 90 representatives from the shipyard industrial base from across the U.S.
SCA's safety awards enhance operations and improve safety through recognition and promotion of accident prevention.
SCA conducts quarterly Injury and Illness Surveys. Blinded data is aggregated to display a representative picture of the industry. That picture, over the past 10 years, displays a steady decline in recordable incident rates. In 2011, SCA's total recordable incident rate (TRIR) was 5.16, well below the industry at-large rate of 7.8.
AWARDS FOR EXCELLENCE IN SAFETY
Companies are eligible for this award if they submit the SCA Injury & Illness survey for all four quarters, have zero fatalities throughout the year, and have a recordable TRIR rate below the SCA aggregate.
